When Solomon asked God for an understanding heart that he might judge God’s people, God was pleased that Solomon had not asked for himself but according to God’s heart. And God gave him what he asked for, “And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour:” God knows our “Alsos.” If we’re honest with ourselves, most of what we pray for is for ourselves. We might have faith in God’s ability but do we have faith in His will for us? Do we have enough faith to subordinate our needs, our will, our wants and our “alsos” to His will? Remember, the Prodigal started his trip to the far country by asking his father, “give me.” When he repented and returned home to his father he asked, “make me.”
