God subjected himself to human form, birth as a baby among animals in a manger. The creator of all, became a tender, supremely vulnerable infant. He obeyed sinful parents. He respectfully listened to rabbis teach wrong doctrines about himself. He did it for us. Ultimately, He was wrongfully arrested and tried unlawfully om 6 courts. He was oppressed and afflicted yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he opened not his mouth (Isaiah 53: 7). It wasn’t just the affliction of the Jews and Romans. He’s afflicted by the sins of every one of us. Why did he remain silent? Because his entire purpose was to die just this way, to pay for our sins. Even during the horrors of crucifixion, he could have called down ten thousand angels to rescue him but his love for us and his obedience to his father wouldn’t let him. Can we reflect such divine silence in our lives?
