If you are born again, it happened by grace through faith. That faith was just a beginning, the beginning of your new life in Christ and like an infant, God wants your faith to grow up, to mature. What does that look like? When God first called Abraham and promised him the land, he was 75 years old. God reaffimed the promise when Abraham was 99 years old. He died at 175 without ever seeing the land. But he believed it was already his! His belief was counted to him for righteousness. Between the time God commanded Noah to build the ark and when the rains began was somewhere between 50 and 75 years. There had never been rain on the earth, Noah had never seen it, but he preached and built the ark in faith. In 2 Kings 7, the Syrian army fled their tents and their encampment leaving all their arms, clothing, food supplies and treasures behind because the Lord had caused them to hear the thunder of chariots, horses and a great host they believed was the army of Israel. They believed they would lose their lives so their “stuff” had no value. Can we have faith to see that what we have in Christ, the life, the promises, the inheritance is so real—like Abraham, that we already have it—doesn’t our stuff and this life pale in comparison?
