Forgiveness is the divine miracle of grace and though it is freely given by faith, it was not free. It was bought at an unfathomable cost, paid for by the Creator of all. Jesus left the glories of heaven to be born with animals, a helpless infant, raised by poor parents. For 33 plus years he never had a wrong thought or did a wrong thing. He was wrongly accused, faced 6 illegitimate courts, was beaten and scourged to the point he didn’t look human and was crucified with criminals. But this was not a tragedy. This was His purpose. To shed His sinless blood to pay for our sins. The cost wasn’t merely his suffering. It paled compared to the real horror; the wrath of God for all of our sins was poured out on him on the cross. It was so agonizing, God hid it from us behind three hours of darkness. To forgive sin, this price had to be paid. Without the atonement we could not be forgiven, otherwise God would contradict his nature. God signified our payment had been received when He raised Christ on the third day. Do we realize what it cost to buy our redemption? Does it well up a fountain of gratitude and devotion within us? Hallelujah! What A Saviour!
