There are many accounts in the Bible of God’s blessings on his people or a person, followed by a verse that begins with, “But…” These accounts are warnings to us. The details that follow the but– are about misplaced priorities that inevitably lead to misplaced love. The first commandment is first for this reason. When God isn’t your first priority, prayer, Bible reading, faithful in church; will feel optional. Before your public priorities change, your private ones will have already been corrupted. Keep God, the God who died to save you first in your heart and your priorities!
