The Ark Noah was told to build is a representation of Christ. The dimensions of the ark are the same proportion as the dimensions of the ark of the covenant. Unlike the modern depictions of an ark that looks like a boat, with a bow and stern, the ark Noah built was a rectangular box. It wasn’t attractive, we are told neither was Jesus. Salvation from the flood would come by entering the ark. When we are saved, we are “in Christ.” When it was time, Noah and his family were told to “come” into the ark. There was only one door in the ark and only one way to be saved. The only window faced toward heaven because death and destruction were in the waters all around them. Everything they needed was in the ark (the same holds true for us), they never ran out of food. The nature of each animal was changed while in the ark (the lions laid down with lambs) and our nature is changed when we are in Christ. The rain was God’s judgement that fell upon the earth. The ark took the judgement (God’s wrath) and preserved those in the ark. As the waters rose, the ark rose above that judgement. God instructed Noah to seal the wood with pitch on the outside and the inside. The gopher wood is a symbol of mankind. And that gopher wood was sealed so that no water (judgement) touched it. This is the way we are sealed unto the day of redemption! When Noah and his family were in the ark, God waited seven days before the flood came and the door remained open. This represents God’s desire for all to be saved who will come. Today the door has not yet closed; who will come?
