Sadly, the sermon for 08/06/2025WED was not recorded.
The far country is anywhere away from the Father’s house. Most prodigals never return, lost to addiction, prison, homelessness or death. There were two sons.Like the parables of The Lost Sheep and The Lost Coin, the older brother represents the Pharisees and scribes. The theme of these parables in Luke 15 is rejoicing. The Pharisees should have been praising and rejoicing the presence of Jesus.
The prodigal son wasted his inheritance.
Some truth about the Fling:
Fun in the fling: There is pleasure, but only for a season.
Fruit of the fling: After the pleasure, the rest of the story; suffering, shame, friends disappear and you’re left with the pigs. The fling always ends in the pig pen.
You always reap MORE than you sow. “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” (Galatians 6:9) So stop sowing to the flesh and reaping corruption. Start sowing good seeds. You will reap in due time.
The older son, never left and had unbroken, closer fellowship with the father. Though he begrudged the prodigal the fatted calf, the older son would own all the cattle. He will inherit the whole farm; along with supplication, service, fellowship and purity. the older son never ate hog slop and had friends who stayed at the father’s house.
