When Jacob stole his elder brother’s blessing from Isaac, his father; Jacob he hid behind Esau’s name and he came in his brother clothes. If you can see the gospel in this story it’s quite beautiful. Jacob represents God the Father, Esau, the elder brother represents Jesus and Jacob represents us. As Jacob took his brother’s name, we have to come to God in Jesus’ name. But Jacob examined who he thought was Esau, just as we will be examined when we stand before the throne. He was wearing his brother’s clothes. Our clothes are filthy rags but Jesus puts his coat of righteousness on us. And as Jacob smelled a sweet smell of the field, God will enjoy a sweet smelling savor of Christ’s holiness when we stand before Him. This blessing is irreversible because it rests on God’ Word and integrity.
