An important piece of the full armour of God is our feet being shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. We need shoes in order to stand and share the gospel. As believers, we have peace with God (ROM 5:1, LUK 2:14, Eph 2:14 ). But when we preach the gospel that brought us peace, it doesn’t produce peace, but rather division. Jesus tells us he left us his peace (John 14:27) and to, “Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” When we share the gospel we can know it will create division but a fruit of the Spirit is peace. Like the peace that allowed Jesus to sleep in the midst of the storm, or Paul to sing joyfully after a dreadful beating while in painful stocks in prison. When we share the gospel, if we let the peace of God rule in our hearts, even though it creates strife, we can stand. When we face contention, know that we are not called to argue or debate, only share the gospel. Then our work is done and the Holy Spirit’s work begins. If we argue or even answer questions, we can distract them from the work of the Spirit. The peace of God allows us to stand and give the gospel. Sixty-seven times in the book of Acts, the apostles said Jesus died for your sins, was buried and rose on the third day; and look at what the Spirit accomplished.
