We must beware of our being physically close to God, yet far from Him spiritually. The children of Israel, rescued from bondage in Egypt began complaining, murmuring and though God was with them, they drifted far from Him in spirit. Judas was just as close to Jesus as the other disciples but complained of the “wasted” spikenard. Demas was close to Paul, , ministering with him but his eyes were drawn away to “this present world.” It’s not hard to imagine Demas was complaining before he left the ministry. Just because we’re faithful in church, and near to each other, it’s no guarantee we will stay close to God. Our eyes can still drift. Guard your eye gate; fill it with the Word. Keep your eyes upon Jesus.
