Since God created man His desire was to populate the whole earth with people bearing His image. The first couple, Adam and Eve, took a major detour. Then God tried again with Noah’s family. then again with Abraham to beget a nation of families in His image, with laws to make them a peculiar people that would be a light to all nations. But by the time Jesus arrives, His people won’t even talk to Gentiles, having become like Jonah. The Jews were looking for a physical deliverance, not a saviour. God wanted to use the Jewish nation’s obedience to shine a light to the world but instead used their rejection and disobedience, shifting His focus from the Jews to the Jews and Gentiles to become His church, His holy nation, His bride to reach the nations. The Jews were plotting to kill Jesus while there were Greeks (Gentiles), “saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.”
