Jesus sent Judas (and Satan indwelling him) out of the upper room so that He could comfort His disciples and encourage them about what was to come. Do you want to hear what God has to say to you? Stay far from the evil one and his influences. Jesus explained He had to leave them ; now was His time come. He had to die and ascend alone to the mercy seat to sprinkle His blood. So He gave them a new commandment, “That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.” The disciples were all very different from one another, with different backgrounds, stations in life and occupations. They quarreled over who would be the greatest while Jesus was with them, how would they fare after He was gone? In the end times we’re told men “shall be lovers of their own selves” (2 Timothy 3:2). It was important to Jesus that they love one another because that demonstrates Jesus to the world. Loving self is natural. Loving one another is supernatural. It takes His Holy Spirit.
