The blood of animal sacrifices can’t take away sin, it can only temporarily cover it. We each have a body to live in but God needed a body to die in as the ultimate sacrifice to pay for our sin. During his “trials’” and his crucifixion, Jesus experienced every possible injury a human body can suffer. The first time a human body has been without sin since Adam, the second Adam gave his life and his blood to pay for our sin. Just days prior, people came from all over to Jerusalem for the Passover and welcomed Jesus with shouts of Hosanna during the triumphal entry. Now, wearing his blood soaked robe, with a crown of thorns and a simple reed for a scepter, we “Behold our King,” who gave his life, a ransom for us.
