As it became apparent he would not be a conquering Messiah (rather a suffering servant), he decided to cut his losses and side with the establishment. What may have torn it for him was when Mary &#8220;squandered&#8221; the expensive spikenard, anointing the feet of Jesus. His betrayal was expected by Jesus (because of prophesy) but the eleven never imagined it. When Jesus told them he would be betrayed by one of them, every one except Judas asked if it was them. Ahithophel, David&#8217;s counsellor is a picture of Judas, Judas is a picture of the antichrist.
